Guidelines for how to signpost The North Sea Trail

Top level Trail Matters

At the Bergen trans national meeting in June 2003 signage and the use of the logo when working with the trail was discussed. This article brings an extract from the conclusion to this discussion, as it was presented in a memo for the partnership July 2003.

Attached to the article, please find, as an example, the guideline on how to work with Nortrail signage in Hordaland, including the technical specifications on how all partners should produce the logo. (previously only presented within the "trans national meetings" section.)

Preparing for the Nave Nortrail Bergen meeting in June 03, the Norwegian partners developed a working paper including the guideline for a Nortrail – signage, as it is to be used in the Hordaland county. The discussion at the trans national meeting clarified that the different national and regional traditions for signage present obstacles for the production of a uniformed Nortrail signage system. Two examples where mentioned specially; the Dutch footpaths are all signed with red and white colour, in UK the use of blue colour means allowance for hors riding. On this background, the steering group decided that the partners should all use the logo, however that different colours will be acceptable. On the basis of this, partners are asked to make use of the following guidelines for the Nave Nortrail logo:

1) All partners are asked to use the Nave Nortrail Logo in all their publications and signage. Exempted from this general rule is when colour is used simply to show that you are on a Nave Nortrail path (like in Hordaland). Remember to include the EU/Interreg logo as specified by EU regulations.

2) Partners will be free to use any colour for the logo and other signage in connection with Nortrail. However, each national grouping in the project is asked to use a similar colour code for all their partners.

3) The Nave Nortrail logo is designed according to certain specifications, showed in the model from the Hordaland guideline - attached.

Partners are asked to follow the specifications when making use of the logo.

4) Each partner will have to deicide the density/how often the logo will be taken into use in the connection with the pathway system. It is however recommended that the logo should be shown at the entrance and at the exit of every part of Nortrail
