The first East Lothian Walking Festival will take place over the weekend of 21 – 23 April 2006.
|
Eleven guided walks led by experienced local walk leaders will take walkers into the hills, coast and countryside of the county. Walks have been graded as Easy, Moderate or Strenuous and range from challenging hikes in the Lammermuirs to enjoyable coastal walks along the John Muir Way (East Lothian’s section of the North Sea Trail).
Economic Development spokesman, Depute Provost David Costello, said: “The Walking Festival is an exciting new venture which is hoped will expand the tourism potential of East Lothian. Visitors and residents alike will discover the beauty of the local countryside whilst also enjoying the health benefits of walking.”
Transport will take walkers from Haddington to the start point of most walks and also collect them at the end of the walk. A traditional Ceilidh has been arranged on the Saturday night at Haddington Corn Exchange where visitors can enjoy local hospitality.
Places on each walk are limited. For further details and to receive a Walking festival brochure tel: 01620 827151 e:

The East Lothian Walking Festival is supported by the North Sea Trail / NAVE Nortrail project, funded by the EU through the Interreg IIIB North Sea Programme
