General info

Now that spring is reaching the north east of Scotland it is a great time to visit the Nortrail Coastal Path along Aberdeen's coast.
|
The birds are starting to nest, primroses, violets and bluebells are all flowering or soon will be. Aberdeen City Council Countryside Officer Ian Talboys said "Aberdeen's Coastal Path is a wonderful place to walk on a sunny warm afternoon at this time of year. The fulmars and kittiwakes are all fighting over nesting ledges, gannets are diving for fish just off shore and if you are lucky you might see a bottlenose dolphin, a porpoise or even a white beaked dolphin. One of the best places to see dolphins and porpoises in the UK is from the Coastal Path at the entrance to Aberdeen Harbour, or from the car park at Torry Battery. Look in the harbour entrance itself. It is amazing how close in they come!"
New interpretation panels designed and written by the Ranger Service are now in place so visitors can find out more about the wildlife and history of this fascinating section of coast. The path surfacing has been improved in some of he more eroded sections as part of the Ranger Service's ongoing commitment to making the countryside of Aberdeen more accessible. Much of this work has been funded through the NAVE Nortrail Project supported by EU Interreg IIIb funds and Greenspace Scotland grant. There will be Ranger led guided walks later in the year along the coast, watch out for the Ranger Service Events programme and items in the local press.
